A girl, a tattoo, and a bespoke portrait session with Ashtyn Jade Productions in Utah County
Elizabeth provided incredible inspiration by way of a deeply meaningful tattoo, one she happened to design herself.
“She [my tattoo] is my emotions worn where I can see them, not hidden. A reminder to live outwardly as my true self, not inside someone else’s version of my life.”
To honor and incorporate the emotions that her tattoo evokes, I gathered a variety of deep, moody floral elements — oversized, weighty, representative of the multifarious nature within us.
This custom headpiece grew in stages and phases; it builds upon itself and, when complete, blends separate and distinct pieces that form an intricate, complicated, majestic whole. (You’ll notice a few variations in the BTS video above.)
“When the noise of the outside world starts to shape my garden, I just go inward. Returning to myself, again and again — back to my roots. Regrowing my garden.”
The world strains to mold us, shape us, box us in. But the truth of who we are and who we are becoming remains far grander than even we can comprehend.
“Like the peony, we bloom slowly, beautifully, and in our own season. The flower’s bud must survive the harshest winters to bloom with power and vibrancy.”
What resonates most for me is the concept that even within the darkest and heaviest moments of life… beauty still blooms. It’s a slow and steady process, this life of becoming. But we are ultimately worthy of the task.
